Posted October 16, 2008 Hurricane Norbert "Interactive" Giving Program
This "giving program" was set up as a way everyone can participate in relief efforts in Alamos, Sonora, Mexico. The State of Sonora and the Federal Republic quickly dispatched personnel, military, and heads of offices in order to bring our community back to where it was prior to the hurricane which devastated our village Saturday evening, October 11th. State and federal programs are actively repairing the infrastructure of our community and are providing shelter, food, clothing, and medical assistance to the many people who lost their homes to the surge of water and mud which originated in the surrounding mountain range (See "Pictures" in the "Albums" shown above in this site).
While all people are being clothed, fed, and sheltered, most of these people have nothing left from the past. Many of their cars were washed out of their front yards and down the arroyo while their homes were filled with water and mud within a matter of minutes. Stories of parents, in their homes shoulder deep in water, holding their children and babies over their heads are plentiful. Many did not survive and were washed down the arroyos along with cars and everything else the rushing water could lay claim to.
This program, called “Hurricane Norbert Interactive Giving Program”, is a way everyone can participate in helping restore dignity to those who lost everything reminiscent of their past lives. For those who have lost everything we are giving each family 500 pesos (about $50 US). The money is equivalent to a week’s wages for most people. The money can be used to purchase those little things which are not provided by state and national organizations.
Why do we call this program “Interactive”? Because you know who received your contribution and they know who gave it to them. In giving the money to those who lost their homes we will:
1) Take a picture of each head of family receiving the 500 pesos
2) Give the recipient your name and address in case they want to write a Thank You note.
3) Give you the name and address of the person who received your donation.
In addition, we will make available record of all incoming donations and outgoing distributions. Every penny or peso will be accounted for. This information will be posted here on AlamosPortfolio.com for your review.
NOTE: If you are making a donation then please make it in $50 increments (i.e, $50, $100, $400, etc.). Also, when you have made the donation we would like to have you email us with:
1) Your name and address
2) The date you made the donation and dollar amount
3) Also, where did you deposit? Bank of America, PayPal, or Scotia Bank?
