The Bare-throated Tiger Heron is a one of the largest and most striking birds to be found around Alamos. It spends its time wading through creeks, ponds, and rivers looking for fish, frogs, and anything else it can snatch up and eat. The Alamos region lies at the northern-most extent of this species’ distribution, don’t expect to find it anywhere in the US. The Río Cuchujaqui, Arroyo Mentidero, and Río Mayo are especially good places to look for this bird.
