We do not have a chapter of the SPCA here in Alamos.  We do, however, have a newly formed organization which somewhat parallels the efforts of the SPCA.  The name of the group is called APPA (Amigos Para El Proteccion de Animales de Alamos).  Their mission is to bring an end to homeless and neglected animals in Alamos and the surrounding municipality.  The organization makes every effort to protect animals from abuse, neglect, and exploitation.  APPA inspires awareness and compassion within the community for all living things through education.  The APPA is currently establishing a permanent clinic and shelter as well as a mobile clinic.  Some of their programs include a full-scale Spay & Neuter Program to stop the reproduction of unwanted animals and also there are efforts underway to instigate a local law which would require all animals in the city limits to be licensed and registered.  The new APPA clinic is scheduled to open sometime in December of 2007 at 310 Calle Madera in Alamos.
